Projektinformationen

Pruitt Igoe ist ein soziales Wohnungsbauprojekt aus dem Jahr 1947. Seit dem Abriss im Jahre 1972 liegt das 23 Hektar große Areal brach.

We understand that the Pruitt-Igoe experience has left a trauma among former residents, the citizens of St. Louis, and the architecture and planning community. Maybe the site is haunted because there never was a decent funeral? We want to build a mound and create something new out of Pruitt-Igoe.
Rather than extending the mourning of its failure, we want to make the site accessible to a wide variety of users. By offering “spaces of opportunity”, we hope to stimulate a spirit of optimism that triggers improvements and development in the surrounding area. By exposing and re-interpreting the remnants of the original design, we make it history.
